The Pablo Tretyakov Gallery

At the arranged time, the guided visit of the Tretyakov Gallery begins from the museum hall. Its name is in homage to the collector Pablo Tretyakov, who in his time assembled one of the greatest collections of Russian art. Here we will get to know his masterworks, accompanied by an art expert as your guide.

One of the museum's most important canvasses is "The Morning of the Streltsy Execution", by Vasily Ivanovich Surikov. The tour goes on to discover all the secrets behind this painting, as well as learning about selected works of Russian art such as The Apotheosis of War by Vasily Vereshchagin, inspiring us to reflect on the nature of military conflict.

The tour will also pass through other halls dedicated to Russian artists such as Fedotov, Vasnetsov, Rokotov and Kiprenski, author of the famous "Portrait of Alexander Pushkin", as well as taking in the extraordinary collection of Orthodox Russian Icons. A large proportion of these date back to the Middle Ages, although there are equally examples from other centuries, from the 15th to the 19th. And before concluding the guided tour, you will have time to enjoy the sculptures and sketches in the museum's collection.

These pieces are what makes the Tretyakov Gallery an important centre of fine art, both Russian and International.

Opening Hours

• On Mondays, the museum is closed
• On Tuesday and Thursday, you can take the two hour guided tour in one of two time slots: from 2pm to 4pm or from 3pm to 5pm.
• On Tuesdays, the Tretyakov Gallery closes at 6pm, and Thursdays at 9pm. Depending on the day and time of your guided tour, you will have a different amount of free time to spend on your favourite exhibits.
